Artists, designers, photographers and writers are vital to the vitality of a city. What role can they play in the restructuring of South Rotterdam? In Op Zuid twenty artists restructured the district south of the Maas. Their attention is focused primarily on infrastructure, public art/new art initiatives, and how you move through the city. The boundaries between fact and fiction are frequently exceeded, thus creating the impression of a city that everyone knows but not (yet) exists. Studies and reports put an intriguing mosaic of the left bank of the city of Rotterdam.

The photographers Otto Snoek, Christian van der Kooy and Max Dereta portray South Rotterdam as a metropolitan area with a special identity. Designers and artists as Zones Urbaines Sensibles (ZUS), Hans Venhuizen, studio Light and Colour (LEK), Jan King, Daan Roosegaarde, Luuk Bode and Sculpture International (IBC) make proposals to provide new pulses to the planning and experience of South Rotterdam. The mandatory texts remain loyal to the domain of art. Authors Ernest van der Kwast, Sanneke van Hassel, Laurens Abbink Spaink, Fred de Vries, Bianca Boer and Pieters Lennart process their experiences in Southern fiction.
